If you saw my earlier post, Announcement - I have signed on as a ghost twitterer for Steven Hodson, you probably realized that it was an April Fool's joke. For those who don't know Hodson, suffice it to say that he is one of the LAST people who would ever feel the need or the desire to hire a ghost twitterer. (Frankly, I'm somewhat surprised that Guy Kawasaki does it.)
But let's see how the pros handle this day. From Google:
For several years now a small research group has been working on some challenging problems in the areas of neural networking, natural language and autonomous problem-solving. Last fall this group achieved a significant breakthrough: a powerful new technique for solving reinforcement learning problems, resulting in the first functional global-scale neuro-evolutionary learning cluster.
Since then progress has been rapid, and tonight we're pleased to announce that just moments ago, the world's first Cognitive Autoheuristic Distributed-Intelligence Entity (CADIE) was switched on and began performing some initial functions. It's an exciting moment that we're determined to build upon by coming to understand more fully what CADIE's emergence might mean, for Google and for our users. So although CADIE technology will be rolled out with the caution befitting any advance of this magnitude, in the months to come users can expect to notice her influence on various google.com properties.
The first example of CADIE's work?
Earlier today, for instance, CADIE deduced from a quick scan of the visual segment of the social web a set of online design principles from which she derived this intriguing homepage.
Hint - when I first visited the "intriguing homepage," I was not wearing my headphones. And you truly want to wear your headphones for this CADIE video:
However, the folks at Google apparently didn't go...um...a Google search on the word that they chose for their April Fool's prank. It turns out that Cadie Inc. is a real company, based in Paterson, NJ, that sells cleaning cloths and other non-panda products.
P.S. I did not confine my April Foolery to the Empoprise-BI blog. Check out my other posts, including David Allen named Senior Editor of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Allan Williams prepares to conquer the world...again, and NTN Buzztime signs agreement with Denny's.
