On corporate image

I am employed as a communicator, and I obviously communicate here on my blog also. In both cases, I realize that I could probably do a better job of projecting a solid corporate image, but frankly I'm not doing all that bad - especially compared to others.

I don't know if this is related to the Epsilon unpleasantness, but I recently received an e-mail from a professed expert in e-mail marketing. Here is part of what the message said:

We are a list vendor company and can help you reach your target audience through different channels like Email, Phone & Direct mail.

With updated database of over 42 Million records with complete contact details i.e., name, telephone, fax, email and more...

We can provide list of any Industry according to your requirement.

The worst part of this sales pitch wasn't the grammar errors - it was the e-mail address that the sender used.

cynthia.jacobson123@gmail.com

Now I don't have a problem with Gmail addresses per se - I use one myself (and Epsilon apparently didn't have THAT address). But if you are a solid company with a 42 million record database, do you really want to use a first name/last name e-mail address, with no corporate identifier? And do you really want to put a "123" at the end of your name?

It makes you wonder about the company listed at the footer of the ad:

Cynthia Jacobson,
Database Manager,
Business List Solutions,
Marconi Drive, Alpharetta,
Georgia 30005, United States, TC:123GP000

(For example, where did they get their lists? Hmmm...)

I only found one online reference to Business List Solutions at an unknown address on Marconi drive. At least this reference had a better contact address:

So why did Maria cite b2bonlineleads.com while Cynthia didn't? Because as of today, the b2bonlineleads.com website cannot be found.

Oh well, I'm sure that someone with a lot of Epsilon data will reactivate the site soon...
